College out of reach for many families

Even after adjusting for inflation, the average New Jersey state college cost has risen 373.2 percent since 1996, according to a new report by New Jersey Policy Perspective, a local think tank. This has put college out of reach for many low- and middle-income families,

There were 826,134 people in New Jersey enrolled in SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program), also known as food stamps, in 2012. That’s nearly 1 in 10 New Jerseyans, which is much lower than the national average of 1 in 7.
